It was once one of my dreams… to be with the children and to serve as their “ate”, to share with them a portion of my time and of what I have. It was a desire in my heart to serve and to love. Because it is only in serving and loving that I find joy, meaning and purpose in my life. Loving the people around me is an expression of loving God in return.

December 13, 2009, awakened a burning passion in my heart that I have almost forgotten. It was on this day that I spent time and joined the Christmas Party of the children of Tahanan ng Pagmamahal Orphanage. These children allowed me to rediscover the child in me. They taught me to rediscover what joy is and that is finding delight in simple things. They reminded me to have a heart that is pure and trustful. They have shown to me what love is through their generous act of kindness.

As I write this, I remember those children especially John, a 6-year old boy who touched my heart in a special way. I was so overwhelmed with the joy and love that I experienced with them. I knew my love tank was filled but as we were about to leave the place, to my surprise there was more. Maggie told me to open my paperbag, so I did. I was teary eyed when I saw that there was something in my paper bag that was not there earlier… It’s a dynamite candy from John. He intentionally put that candy for me… How sweet and thoughtful he was, I said to myself… But more than this he made clear to me the meaning of Christmas. As I try to relive that scenario, I realized that Jesus visited me through John. And that candy is more than just a candy… It signifies the “LIFE” He has given to me freely and unconditionally. This little boy, Jesus! It’s about Him… and Christmas is about Him…
"This is how we know what love is: Jesus Christ laid down His life for us. And we ought to lay down our lives for our brothers" (1 John 3:16)

Though the time was brief, I believe the lessons that these children taught me and the memories I had with them will last and will be sealed in my heart forever.

Thanks to Maggie for the invitation and for being a channel of God’s love always…

I am so grateful to God that He gave me the opportunity to see His face through these children.

Thank you Lord…

I will see you again my little brothers and sisters in Christ…
