A HOME OF HAPPINESS

By Arman Seguis

I am writing more of happiness because I wanted to be happy too.  Sometimes our human emotions dictates us whether you are happy or not. Have you experienced it? Na minsan gusto mong maging masaya pero parang ayaw mong maging masaya? Di ba nakakainis noh?" Gusto mong tumawa pero parang wala ka sa mood na tumawa. “But to be happy, we must agree and tell to ourselves that we are happy.  We must start TODAY, proclaiming happiness in our life, in our home, in our offices and wherever we go.  We must tell ourselves that "I AM HAPPY."

There is something within us which always condemns and tell us not to be happy. It is our selfish act or our ego. I have never known a greedy, grasping, selfish person to be happy.  Where these pre-conception dominates in the nature, it is impossible for the things which create love to live.  The weeds kill the more tender plants and flowers which radiates sweetness and beauty, contentment and happiness. Let ourselves be a home of happiness, not a home of greed and selfish nature.  It is impossible for a selfishness to taste the quality of the highest happiness, as it is for a blind man to appreciate the glories of a sunset.

A person can never realize complete, abiding happiness until he/she gets into the overflowing joy and happiness from God.  Because in everything on a material thing is transitory and in constant change.  There is nothing permanent, nothing abiding, in that which material things can give.

I have three (3) kids, namely Naomi Mary 20, Gaius Joshua 18 and Symeon Peter 10, I give them material things like PSP up to Laptop…etc, of course they are happy every time I was able to provide their material needs, but when I am went out of the country to do business trips, I can see the loneliness in their hearts. Hindi pa ako nakaalis, tatanungin na nila ako “ Dad kailan balik mo”? Of course they wanted the “pasalubong”. If you give love unselfishly to the person that surrounds you, you are creating and building a home of happiness.

The most unhappy person I know build their own purgatory by their false ideas of life, by putting the wrong emphasis on things, by setting the wrong value on things.  The man with the ill-gotten fortune may found colleges, build hospitals, feed and clothe the poor, and yet never find the happiness which has been the quest of his whole career.  Happiness can no more be bought.

 The bible says:

Psalm 68: 3, “But may the righteous be glad and rejoice before God; may they be happy and joyful.”

There is no superficial happiness if you continue believing and trusting God of His infinite love to us. Try now, by creating happiness at home and you can see the beauty of happiness of having Jesus our Lord at home. Shout the whole word and say,” I AM HAPPY” … IN JESUS NAME… AMEN..

Thank You Lord Jesus!

By Kristina Godinez
Ok. So I'm still sick and feeling quite blue today. Bad and very dry cough, headache's getting better, cold is almost gone so yay! Praise the Lord! Been crying out Jesus' name all day, my family must think I've gone bonkers or something but hey, twas worth it. I'm so glad things are settling down a bit. My first day at my new full-time job was quite a success, even though I must've had the flu yesterday. Today was even better coz we got to work on our own and dig into google for research. Not really nerve-wracking, just a bit overwhelming as we had to go through a truckload of information. No complaints here, just reviewing the past couple of days.

I have a whole lot to be grateful for today but I'll try to squeeze it into a few paragraphs coz I still need to rest. I need to take some time out to thank Jesus for guiding me today.

First, I am grateful for the gifts of life and love, family and friends, most of all for God's immeasurable love for all of us. Life's a rollercoaster and sometimes the lows can get me down but I'm not giving up! The highs are worth it so it's only right to give thanks and praise where they are due. Thank you Jesus! Praise you Jesus!

Second, I thank God for curing some of my ailments. It's not easy working while you're under the weather but I'm grateful cuz at least my runny nose is dry now and even though the cough and headache are still there, praise Jesus for giving me kind mentors and co-workers. So this is a double thank you -- for the healing and for the nice people who I've been working with all day. Thank you God for the early break too! :)

Third, I am thankful for the messages from friends and for the daily Gospel which brightens my day. I read it a bit too late but still applicable. I am also grateful for the chance to relax after work and have a snack that's filling and tasty. And I am grateful for everything else in between.

Yes, the confusion remains (along with the cough and headache) but I'm sure that tomorrow will dawn bright and beautiful. Way sapot ron so yehey! Hihihi. Thank You Jesus! Praise You Jesus! Amen.

Thank You Lord Jesus!

By Kristina Godinez
This is going to be short cuz honestly, I'm kind of feeling under the weather right now. Migraine, cold, cough, sore throat, my body is trying to tell me something... slow down, I guess. Must be stress-related or something. Sigh!

Oh well, now that I'm done complaining, I'm determined to jot down the heaven-sent gifts for which I am truly grateful.

First, just reading my blog post from yesterday, I am reminded of God's indescribable love! No matter how down and out or out of sorts I feel today, I know that God is still there all around me. That alone is worthy of a whole page but since I'm sick and all, please pardon me if I stick to just a few sentences.

Second, I am grateful for yet another day added to my life and my loved ones' life as well. I'd like to insert a small prayer too. Lord Jesus, please guide my Uncle's journey. May he travel in still waters and come home happy and may his trip be safe all the way.

Third, I am grateful for new opportunities and yet another chance to challenge myself and the gifts God has given me. Honestly, I am quite aware that this was not his plan for me originally and I know that my disobedience has a price that's why I'm going to stop complaining about my ailments. God will heal me, and that is enough for me.

Fourth, I am thankful for all the gifts God has showered me. I know I am blessed and this sadness is passing. I believe that God has a great plan for me so no matter what happens, I am secure in the knowledge that I have already surrendered to Jesus and will do so every single day of my life. Yet another prayer... Lord Jesus, I am ready to deny myself and take up my cross. I will follow you Lord Jesus, my God, my Savior, and nothing will ever change that. Thank you Lord Jesus for your love and your guidance. I know you are with me every single day and I will worship you every single day of my life. I love you Lord Jesus. Thank you Jesus! Amen.

Fifth, thank you Lord Jesus for surrounding me with loving family and loyal friends who have stood by me in spite of everything that has happened. I am forever grateful. Praise you Jesus! Thank you Jesus! Amen.

A HABIT TO BE HAPPY

By Arman Seguis
Most unhappy people have gradually become so by forming a habit of unhappiness.   The habit of complaining, of criticizing, of fault finding or grumbling over trifles, the habit of looking for shadows and pervert thoughts makes a person unhappy.  "Palaging salubong ang kilay, parang pasan pasan ang boung mundo..." those people are just wasting their time and the opportunity of being happy.

Nothing contributes more to the highest success than the formation of a habit of seeing the bright side of things.  Whatever your calling in life may be, whatever misfortunes or hardships may come to you, make up your mind resolutely that, come what may, you will get the most possible enjoyment out of every day; that you will increase your capacity for enjoying life, by trying to find the sunny side of every experience of the day.  Resolutely determine that you will see the humorous side of things.  No matter how hard or unyielding your environment may seem to be, there is a brighter side if you can only see it.  Make up your mind that you will be an optimist, that there shall be nothing of the pessimist about you, that you will carry your own happiness wherever you go.

"There is a wonderful medicinal effect in good cheer.   Good news and glad tidings have a magic effect in one's life."  It is a great thing to go through life with a smiling face.  Think how pleasure of living would be increased if we met smiling faces everywhere -- faces which radiate hope, sunshine and cheer!  What a joy to travel in a gallery of living pictures, radiating hope, cheer and courage.

"Cheefulness," says Ruskin, "is as natural to the heart of man in strong health as glow to his cheek, and whatever there is habitual gloom, there must be either bad air, unwholesome food, improperly severe labor, or erring habits of life."

Happiness, says an able writer, " is the greatest paradox in nature.  It can grow in any soil, live under any conditions.  It defies environment.  It comes from within; it is the revelation of the depths of the inner life as light and heat proclaim the sun from which they radiate.  Happiness consists not of having, but of being; not of possessing, but of enjoying.  It is the warm glow of a heart at peace with itself.  Man is the creator of his own happiness.  We take less pains to be happy than to appear so.

It is the aim of everybody to make a habit to be happy, joyful nature, a kindly eye, the power of radiating good will toward everyone.  It will not only brighten the lives of others, but the reflex action of such kindly effort will also help to develop the exquisite personality, that beauty of character and balance of soul, that serenity, which is the greatest wealth we know.

Be glad for the beauty of the springtime, the blue of the skies, the music of the birds, and the glory of the sunsets.  Listen to the laughter of the little children, answer to the handclasp of friendship, grow warm in the love life of countless happy homes, and be sure that somewhere over and above all is a great Love that makes all these things possible.

"Oh. put away gloom and grief and complaining! Do God's work, trust HIS promise and be glad."  Make a habit to be happy.

Proverbs 15: 13 - " A happy heart makes the face cheerful, but the heartache crushes the spirit."

Psalm 10: 6 - .."Nothing will shake me; I'll always be happy and never have trouble."

Expect happines today and thereafter, make your life filled with laughter and joy at all times, in season and out of season. Let not sadness and grief overtakes your joy, but triumph it from the joy of the Lord who is our strength.

IN JESUS NAME.... AMEN..

Keep smilling and cheers...

A JOURNEY TOWARDS LENT SEASON

By Arman Seguis
Today is Ash Wednesday marks a very significant activities of our  Catholic faith -  LENTEN SEASON.

For me Lenten Season is a journey of faith and hope that our loving Father by His undying love to us has been demonstrated through the sacrificial offering of His Son Jesus Christ.

I remember once i was able to visit a home for unwed mothers and I was able to talked to a young girl name Rebecca a 15 year old  who is 4 months pregnant and was indignant to her situation, to her family who called her a disgrace, shame, ignominy and all the harsh words she has got from her family.  She told me all her heartaches with teary eyes and her heart filled with hatred.  Could you imagine Rebecca's situation? of being alone and literally thrown away from her comforts of being with her family. I just listen to her testimony and after she finished talking, she looks at me and said, "what can you say? Her eyes fixed to my eyes because  she wants to hear something from me.  Then i told her, don't you know that Jesus seen everything you did in your life?  don't you know the Jesus also felt what you feel that very day you are here? don't you know that Jesus wants that your life will be taken care of by Him? don't you know how much Jesus loves you? after i said to her, then i saw tears constantly flowing and  her face turns into glowing white and  i heard from her lips a  soft words , she said." LORD I AM SORRY."

We need to be sorry for everything and realizing that our Lord Jesus Christ is constantly walking with us, live with us and died for us.  Our journey towards lent season, will start with 3 R's.  Repent, Reform and Renewed.

Isaiah 30:15 ..."In repentance and rest is your salvation, in quiteness and trust is your strength..."

Luke 5:31 - Jesus answered them, " It is not the healthy, who need a doctor, but the sick.  I have not come to call for the righteous but sinners to repentance."

I pray that as you read this writting, may you find Jesus telling you how much He loves you...Jesus wants to walk with you to your journey of hope and faith.  Jesus cares for you more than anything else in this world.  Listen to His voice and follow Him.

IN JESUS NAME. AMEN..

HAVE A BLESSED ASH WEDNESDAY.. JESUS LOVES YOU.

A New Meaning to our Valentine

By JMJ Family

(Warning: Graphic photo attached.)

Valentine's Day.  A celebration of LOVE.

This was our Valentine's pic last year.  We escaped from the kids for a couple of hours to get a quick bite at Don Henrico's to celebrate the day just by ourselves.

It was short but sweet.  We were celebrating our love, our marriage, our family, our new blessing ... our 5th child that was growing inside me at that time.

The next day, it was a family Valentine date.  We took the kids for the first time to Mines View, Baguio City.  The kids loved it there especially since the mountain view, the tall pine trees and the weather reminded them of Canada.

But the joy was quickly replaced by misery.

This was the pic after I suffered miscarriage of our 3-month old baby, Jonathan.  The ultrasound showed that he was still very much alive but was already out of my uterus.  I desperately wanted to hold on but as I was already bleeding profusely, the doctors had no choice but to deliver him fast.

This was baby Jonathan in a pool of blood after delivery.  Such a handsome boy.  Our beloved angel.  I thank my husband for taking several snapshots of him that day.  He would have been 6 months by now if he had completed his term and had been born August last year.

But that's all in the past.  We have come to terms with the sad fact and have moved on. Baby Jonathan is still very much a part of our family and the kids love the idea that they have an angel baby brother up in heaven.

And thus, our Valentine's day will never be the same again.  It's no longer just a celebration of love ... but of LIFE, most importantly.

Happy Valentine to all!

MAKE THE MOST OUT OF LIFE TODAY

By Arman Seguis
'"How beautiful would our home be if every little child at the bed time hour could look into the faces of their siblings and say: "We've has such sweet times today." How beautiful would be our home if spouses  will say each other in front of their children; " I love you honey, you are the best"...

"To love, and to be loved," says Sydney Smith, "is the greatest happiness of existence."

There was a blind man who sells needles, threads, buttons and sewing supplies went about streets from house to house. Could you imagine a blind man selling needles? It is not easy right?  One day he was asked by his customers about his life, but to their amazed, they found out that the blind man was perfectly happy.  The blind man said, "I had a faithful wife and a business that can support our financial needs.  I stayed in the home with full of love." He alone is the happy man who has learned to extract happiness, not from the ideal conditions, but from the actual ones about him.  He did not wait for ideal surroundings, he did wait until the next month, year or next decade, until he get rich, until he can travel abroad, until he can see the beauty of the world, but he make the most out of life TODAY, WHERE HE IS.

A Chinese proverb said; " He who goes out of his house in search of happiness runs after a shadow."

We can start our enjoyment of happiness at home.  Where real people and the actual conditions exist.  Whether we lack financially or we have more resources, it does not matter of what we are or who we are but it matters most of having enjoying life in our existence with God and people that sorrounds us.

Genesis 5: 1 ' When God created man, he made him in the likeness of God.  He created them male and female, at the time they were created, he blessed them and called them man."

In our existence being likeness of God is already a blessing and to be a blessings to others. Make the most out of our life today to be a source of happiness and a channel of love to those who are near to us.

Genesis 5:24a " Enoch walked with God...."

Enjoy walking with God everyday as you make the most of your life TODAY.

GOD BLESS US ALL.

What if God does not provide?

By Allen Espejo

Have you ever been in a situation where you keep on praying for something but God never seem to listen to your prayer?

What would you feel if you woke up one morning only to realize that you no longer have friends, you no longer have a job or a business and your flat broke?

Would you blame God for not answering your prayer?

When God does not provide for our needs, does it mean that he had abandoned us?

First of all, we need to understand that God gives us blessings and not curses.

Let me share you my personal experience.

Okay, I know this will be boring since I will be talking about my life experience.  I promise to keep it short – 15 pages only (just kidding).  I’m sure you don’t want to turn down a friend who recommended you to read my blogs who is probably my relative, so, here it goes …

In 1996, I use to be a part of a group who runs a premier nightclub operation located along the world famous Manila Bay sunset strip.  The place was a haven to very rich people and tourists.  Our club slogan was “hall of the gods and the goddesses.”  I was one of the gods.

I will not disclose the details on how we run the business – it’s censored.  18 months later, due to mismanagement and more, we have to shut down the operation.

During those 18 months, although I knew my life was going towards the wrong direction - my troubled relationship with my wife; being acquainted with the wrong people and wrong business, I did not know when to stop - correction please – I did not want to stop doing the wrong things!

After everything has been taken away, I could not understand why all my hard work and efforts ended up nowhere. I could not accept the fact that I have failed. As far as I knew, I did everything I can to be successful in life and to make things work.  We were running a legitimate establishment, we employ people, and we provide entertainment – what’s wrong with that?

I blamed everyone including God as if He had something to do with my failure - “God, its unfair!  Why did you allow this to happen to me? Why did you abandon me?  You said that you are with me all the way!  Where is the Great Provider?”

God took away the things that are not for me.  I lost everything because I was not functioning based on my intended purpose in life – to be His good steward.  I was my own god.

I had “temporary” financial abundance and plenty of artificial friends.  There were times where I would have lots of money before the night begins and I would boast my “big shot” image then end up broke in the morning (yes, I did that and more).  I did not have the discipline to handle money. A discipline that was impossible to have because I was engaging in a business that is morally against my beliefs.  I became broke because I was selfish, irresponsible and financially illiterate.

I have learned my lessons in life the hard way.  I am just so fortunate to be blessed to have a family who stood behind me all the way. Through them, I learned to pause and reflect and doing the things that I never thought I would be doing – to call on to God for help.

Today, when my wife and I want to do something or decide on something, especially if it is a major decision, we would pause, pray and reflect. We would write down our dreams and plans then we pray for discernment before we put them into action.

In our spiritual journey, we have used the following questions to help us discern if our dream is aligned to God’s plans for us.  If we feel that we are struggling on something while implementing our plans, we stop and reflect then we go back to reflect on these questions again.  If our answer to any one of the four questions is “No,” we stop and redo our plans.

These are the questions that we ask ourselves:

First question, am I asking based on His will?  “Your will be done on earth as it is in heaven.” Matthew (6:10)

In my case, running a nightclub is definitely not His will.

From then on, any business I choose, it has to be in accordance primarily with the word of God through the scriptures, my faith, moral beliefs, values and expectations.

I made sure that I do not use my time and money on the things that do not correspond to my expectations.  I expect to put my money towards a system that is in line with my beliefs – “Your will be done.”

There are three questions to answer to know if “Your will be done” is followed before you move to the next question:

  1. Will this glorify God or will this glorify you?
  2. Will this give more praises to God or you just want people to praise you?
  3. Will this give me more time to serve God or will this give you more time to serve you? (By the way, serving God is not limited to serving your church alone.  Don't limit yourself in serving God in a single place or a single area in your life. A good place to start is within your family.)
If your answer is "no" to any one of these questions, don’t bother yourself moving on to the next question.  But if all your answers are "yes", then...

Second, do I maintain a good relationship with God? “If you abide in Me, and My words abide in you, ask whatever you wish for, and it will be done for you.” (John 15:7).

If your running a business that involves prostitution, you definitely do not have a good relationship with God.

I’m not saying that prostitutes are damned to go to hell. Of course not!  I can name several prostitutes who are heroes in the bible.   What I’m saying is that I will not be investing anymore in the type of business that runs prostitution.  I’ve been in that business before and that experience is a lesson that I can never forget for the rest of my life.

Having a good relationship is with God essential to make sure that whatever you wish, it will be done for you.

If you have a good relationship with the Lord, then...

Third, am I using the authority given to me when I'm saying my prayers? “Whatever you ask in My name, that will I do.” (John 14:13).

Many of us underestimate the power of using this authority – “In Jesus name.”  I have heard several Christians use this phrase as an expression.  Remember, do not use God’s name in vain.

Let me share you an example on how powerful it is to use one’s name.

My “kumpare” (godfather of my son) works for a recruitment agency for shipping companies back in the Philippines.  If you know someone who works in a cruise ship owned by “Princess Cruises”, they probably know my friend.

Anyway, whenever someone comes to me for help to back him or her up to my friend, I would write on a sheet of paper (there was even a time when I wrote a note on a cigarette box) and say “kumpare, please help so and so on his application” and I would sign at the bottom and he would bring that note to him.

Here’s the thing, when that person goes to meet my friend, he would skip a big line up of applicants and he would be entertained directly and immediately by my friend as if he was holding a VIP pass.

He was entertained immediately not because he had good credentials or he was good looking or he was somebody else.  He received immediate attention because he used my name when he went to my friend.

We have to remember, when we ask something in prayer and say “In Jesus Name”, we are actually using our VIP pass to be entertained immediately by God the Father.

Now, you know that your plans are based on His will for you  and because you have a good relationship with the Lord, you have the liberty to use His name in your prayers, then...

Fourth, did I have the faith to believe that I am going to receive what I prayed for? “Therefore I say to you, all things for which you pray and ask, believe that you have received them, and they will be granted you.” (Mark 11:24)

When you pray, don’t doubt but rather expect.

I have questioned this verse from the scriptures when I was new in our community. I asked my fellow brothers and sisters – isn’t it crazy that we would act like we already have something but we don’t?  Wouldn’t it give you more frustration if you acted like you had something but in the end, it will never be yours?

Here is a tip, to avoid being frustrated, don’t act as you received that something if your answer to any of the first three questions is “No.”

If your answer to the first three questions is yes, then there’s no reason for you not to expect an answer – in his time.

Let me share you one more story before I end this blog.

Two years before having a Canadian visa, after submitting our application, we were already saying our goodbyes to friends and fellow community members.

Take note, when we submitted our application, this was the time when my wife and I have no permanent job and both of us have no business income.  We have no proof of income based on our income tax returns.  Our chance to be granted a visa based on our credentials is a high 10%.

Within those two years of waiting, many people keep on asking this question, when will we leave for Canada?  We would just answer,  “soon, very soon.”

It never crossed our minds that we will be denied of a visa. What we know is, to all of the four questions, our answer was a resounding yes!

And behold, we are now living in this beautiful country for the last 8 years (at the heart of 2010 Winter Olympics venue) proclaiming to the world how good our God is!

Amen!

Gr8 D8 w/ J8k

By JMJ Family
It was J8k's turn to have an exclusive date with Mommy and Daddy.

Since he had a bit of a fever the previous night, we decided that we'll just spend our 'date' at home.  We sent JM and Jaq off to Kidaround in SM (Kuya JJ had already gone to school earlier), so J8k can have Mom and Dad all to himself.

First on our agenda was vandalism .... err, I mean, fingerpainting.

Then, fun learning letters with VTech.

Then, phonics at Starfall.com.

We also watched Thomas and Friends (again and again and again) on Youtube.

We read stories together.  We tickled.  We kissed.  We hugged.  We bonded.

When Kuya JJ came home from school, it was time to head off to SM to fetch JM and Jaq from Kidaround.  But before that, we had to treat J8k to exclusive kiddie car rides, too.

So much fun and manageable if full focus is on 1 kid at a time.

It was total pandemonium as usual when our gang was complete again.  Shrieking, yelling, bickering ... loving, sharing, laughter ...

Life is sooooo great!

A SIMPLE MEANING OF LOVE.

By Arman Seguis
I have a 10 year old son, his name is Symeon Peter. Almost everyday i say to him the magic words, "I Love You".  Before we go to sleep i whisper to him always I love you. One day i was surprised that he asked me why i keep on telling him I love you?  He said, pareho tayong lalake eh why do say i love you? I laughed so much that he was irritated.  I came back to my senses and asked myself how does the new generation understand the meaning of LOVE.  My son think that when you say i love you it should be meant to the opposite sex only.  For me it was alarming, that the word LOVE  is now already been abused or misused.

There are so many definition or meaning of Love, it depends on how are you going to use the word. I think the reason why our world is in kiosk because we never pay attention anymore the simple meaning of love.

In 1 Corinthians chapter 13: 4 - 8b - "Love is patient, love is kind.  It does not envy, it does not boast, it is not proud.  It is not rude, it is not easily angered, it keeps no record of wrongs. Love does not delight in evil but rejoices with the truth.  It always protects, always trust, always hopes, always perserveres.  Love never fails."...

Napaka simple lang the meaning of love di ba? You can memorize or say it everyday the 1 cor 13:4- 8 and change the word love or every first word by your own name.  Like Arman is patient, Arman is kind, Arman does not envy, . . . .Arman never fails,  then we can make the world we live the world of LOVE. Our home will be filled with love, a home of loving person.  Can you imagine, what a place to live or a home to stay with full of love. Is it  great and awesome? right...

When i was on the mid-20's, i used to visit the home for the aged of Mother Teresa in Tondo.  I brought ice cream for the children , and for the old ones i brought my guitar and serenade them their favorite song, guess what? Hindi kita malilimutan.. Evertime i sing that song to them, there was a very old woman that keeps on crying while im singing, i am not a good singer but she cried.  So i asked her and she told me, that she was hurt because it was her own children brought her to the home for the aged while waiting for his time to go home to the Lord.  She hugs me all the time, and she told me that all her heartaches has gone after she felt that there is somebody loves her.

Let us share our love to all our loved ones.  Give love this valentines day to those who are unloved.  Let us fill the world with Love.

John 15: 9 says; " As the Father has loved me, so have i loved you.  Now therefore remain in my love."

God bless us all and Happy Valentines.  Keep smilling and cheers..
